PGY II and III
General structure
The second and third years of the Dixon RTT are spent in Dixon. Rotations are 4 weeks in length, and alternate between block and longitudinal scheduling.
Block scheduling – resident concentrates on a single subject area for four weeks. Resident attends Wednesday afternoon didactic session, and is in FHC 2 half-days weekly (R2) or 3 half-days weekly (R3).
No FHC call or rounding responsibilities.
Longitudinal scheduling – resident is involved in 2-4 subject areas that lend themselves to a longitudinal approach; e.g., 2 half-days weekly in dermatologist office, two half-days in ENT office, and one half-day practice management activities. The week is rounded out by four half-day FHC sessions and the Wednesday afternoon didactic session.
Subjects that are presented longitudinally are allocated varying numbers of total hours depending on RRC requirements and curricular needs. For example, a 60-hour longitudinal experience in dermatology may occur as 15 four-hour sessions. These twice-weekly sessions occur over a total of 8 weeks, spanning two separate longitudinal months.
During longitudinal months, residents are assigned rounding and on-call responsibilities for the FHC patient panel.
